In its attempt to ease traffic congestion across the state, the Haryana government has decided to set up East-West and North-South corridors involving an investment of over Rs. 4,000 crore. The proposed corridors stretching up to a total length of 682 km meant for easing traffic congestion on the Ambala-Delhi highway from North to South and between Sirsa and UP border from West to East.
According to reports emanating from various sources, the proposed corridors would be set up in a phased manner whereby Rs. 2,000 crore would be released for the first phase of the project. The 287 km East West corridor will start from Ellenabad and end at Karnal in the UP border crisscrossing 71 villages and towns. The corridor will pass via Sirsa, Fatehabad, Uklana Mandi, Uchanakala, Asand and Karnal. The total cost of the corridor has been estimated at Rs. 1,600 crore.
Likewise another 395 km corridor connecting northern Haryana with southern parts of the state will begin from Panchkula and terminates at Kotputli bordering Rajasthan. This corridor passing through 155 villages and mini towns including Saha, Shahbad, Alewa, Kalanaur, Dadri, Mahendargarh, Narnaul and Kotputli on the National Highway-8. This corridor will have about 30 bypasses and 12 railways over bridges requiring 4,400 acres of land and will also open up direct and indirect employment opportunities for over one lakh people. Apart from this, the state has also decided to develop the missing road links between various towns to provide contiguity to the corridors.
